Case Study: Retro-fit Design DVL – A New Life for a Timeless Design
This project revolves around an unfinished hull of a classic De Vries Lentsch design, a vessel with a rich history and potential that has never fully come to life. At SIEdes, we strongly believe in rediscovering and breathing new life into ships or hulls that are currently unused. For us, this is not just a design challenge, but also an opportunity to give iconic designs a second chance, making them functional and aesthetically relevant once again.
In this particular case study, we developed a brief exterior design sketch, aiming to optimize the hull for both functionality and appearance. All the information used for this design was available online via De Valk Shipbrokers during the sale of the hull. The design combines classic lines with modern accents, and is entirely based on the original drawings and data that were available. This approach not only emphasizes the timeless elegance of the original design, but also adds contemporary elements to bring the ship in line with today’s standards and needs.
With attention to detail and respect for the original design, the concept sketch focused on:
- Functionality: Reorganizing and refining the exterior space to enhance usability without compromising the aesthetic character.
- Aesthetics: Harmonizing the classic lines with a fresh, modern design to make the ship visually appealing for a new generation of owners.
- Sustainability: Preparing the design for reuse and new possibilities, focusing on longevity and efficient use.
At SIEdes, we believe that ships like these, which may have faded into the background over time, hold immense value when given the right attention and care. Our mission is to breathe new life into hulls and vessels with creativity and craftsmanship, so they not only sail again but also become cherished as unique works of art on the water.
