Intro
Commissioned by the current owner, SIEdes has developed a preliminary design for the refit of Croix du Sud. This proposal includes multiple styles and layout options, intended to be further refined in collaboration with the future owner to bring the vision to life. The refit of this classic motor yacht aims to transform her into a floating film set. For the visualizations, an initial design in the Hollywood Chic style was chosen: a timeless blend of elegance, glamour, and functionality. In addition to this style, several design approaches have been developed in the form of mood boards. These serve as a starting point for a joint creative exploration—not as fixed final images, but as inspiring lines of thought. Every refit is unique; this is just one of the many routes you can take.

From Frontline to Flair — The Story of Croix du Sud
Born in England, 1943. Built at the Thornycroft shipyard as a Motor Torpedo Boat for the Free French. Powered by three aircraft engines and loaded with torpedoes, she sped across the North Sea, heading for missions along the European coasts. Her life expectancy? Only three to four months. But Croix du Sud survived. She was damaged but returned. A rare survivor. After the war, she continued her life in Ostend as a harbor boat. Until a Dutch road builder discovered her, fell in love, and gave her a new life. The De Vries Lentsch shipyard completely rebuilt her—retaining her lines and soul, but now as a luxurious motor yacht. She received a permanent skipper, a wooden hull with diagonal teak, and two powerful Detroit diesels.
She was used as a mother ship for sailing races, cruised along the coasts of Europe, and gained the status of a sailing legend. Bridge keepers knew her by name. Lock masters made room. The Regenboog class called her their anchor. In harbors, she drew admiring glances—always the center of attention. Now, eighty years later, it's time for a new chapter. A refit that retains her character but updates her appearance and comfort to modern standards. This is not a final design but a vision. A tribute in Hollywood Chic. A starting point for the future.
This proposal presents a wide range of options for the refit of Croix du Sud. Each choice is flexible and can be tailored to the wishes of the new owner and the sailing environment. This creates a personal and future-proof design that is functional, comfortable, and stylish—exactly what the yacht deserves:
To illustrate what a possible layout change might look like, SIEdes has further developed one of the options. In this variant, the flybridge is extended and equipped with a fixed canopy (bimini). A fixed staircase to the upper deck has been added, as well as a second helm station. The deck also offers space for a six-person dining table, a bar, and a comfortable corner sofa/lounge.
